COMMUNITY GROUPS are small groups comprised of ten to twelve individuals that meet together for fellowship, Bible study, prayer, accountability and community service. They are closed groups that commit to meet together for 12 months. We offer Community Groups for people in all walks of life. At Waterbrook, a Community Group is the best place for sustained and real, life change to occur. In these groups, people study God’s Word and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It’s also where people pray together, care for one another, and are missed if they don’t show up.
COMMUNITY GROUPS CORE VALUES
Live Authentically & Pursue Relationally (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Where we GATHER in Christ-centered community
Where life-changing friendships are formed
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. – James 5:16
Where we CENTER our conversation and lives on Jesus
Where the Bible is studied and applied to our daily lives
Where honest and authentic questions can be asked
Where we are encouraged and challenged to discover and deepen our faith in Christ
Where we SERVE one another and our community
Where the joys of life are celebrated and the struggles are shouldered
Where the challenges of life are met with compassion, love and support
Engage & Serve Missionally (Matthew 28:19-20)
Where we join together to SERVE our city for Jesus
Where we can learn to live like local missionaries in our city
Engage intentionally with our communities and the world to make disciples.
Serve the people of our city for the sake of the Gospel
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
Each month, we, as a church, and as Community Groups will follow the IOU model.
First week will be Inward
Second week will be Outward
Third week will be Upward
Fourth week will be up to the Community Group to decide which IOU they would like to do.
The beauty of this model, is that we can celebrate corporately on the weekend what God is doing in our groups each week. This not only builds excitement for the coming week, but also enriches the relationships and common unity within Waterbrook.
COMMUNITY GROUP MODEL – IOU
INWARD: Group members build relationships and bond together as they share, pray and fellowship with one another. This week is focused on the group caring for each other and growing as a group. Open and Honest accountability is key.
OUTWARD: Group members show the love of Christ to their communities. During this week, the focus is not solely on each other, but on helping those who live in our community with no hidden agenda or objective. We aren’t loving on people to get them to Waterbrook. We serve those in our community because we love Jesus and we love our community.
UPWARD: Group members dig into God’s Word through study prayer and discussion. This week is all about getting closer to God. Understanding who we are in Christ, discovering the power and presence of God and being transformed in the process.
